At Lime Tree Primary Academy, we believe that physical education experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is essential to ensure children attain optimum physical and emotional development and good health

PE at Lime Tree, aims to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical well-being in our children, now and for their future. Physical fitness is an important part of leading a healthier lifestyle. It teaches self-discipline and that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience, and have the determination to believe that anything can be achieved.

Intent – what we teach?

Physical Education at Lime Tree Primary Academy develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform a range of physical activities with competence and confidence. Physical Education promotes a fondness for exercise and competition whilst building an understanding of how our bodies work.

Key Stage One children will have the opportunity to develop their fundamental motor skills, including balance, agility, and coordination both working individually and with others.

In Key Stage Two children will continue to improve and apply a broader range of skills, linking them to make actions and sequences in a variety of activities and games. This will run alongside the advancement of understanding tactical and analytical knowledge while performing.

Key Stage Two pupils will also learn to swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres. They will use a range of strokes effectively and performance safe self-rescue in different water-based scenarios.

Children will learn these skills in a safe environment, working in a cooperatively and progressive manner. We will promote a resilient and growth mind-set while facing challenges set both in lessons and during competitive scenarios.
